About me and BB&B reviews

I was a full-time environmental activist for much of the 1990s. Deeply involved in a variety of campaigns, I was one of the first to be charged under the 1994 Criminal Justice Act. I also volunteered for two years with the Lloyds and Midland Boycott campaign – an organisation that played a vital part in changing the attitudes of UK banks towards third world debt.
Jailed for my part in the Newbury bypass protests, I then spent several years covering the movement for the underground and mainstream press such as SchNEWS.
Now living in London aged 38, I have kept penury at bay with subsequent careers as a journalist, lecturer and comedy writer.

What others have said about Birds, Booze & Bulldozers:-

‘Gives it to you both barrels and you come away bleeding and winded. Brilliant stuff! The author takes you into the guts of an anti-roads protest camp and you know you’ve been there because

there’s no artifice. In times of runaway climate change this is essential reading from the sidelines.’

Jan Goodey, Brighton

‘BB&B is a great novel – fresh, funny and different. It’s informal, humorous tone would have strong appeal to young adults and may inspire more people to get involved in environmentalism.’

Anne Grange, Sheffield

‘The trials and tribulations of life are tough enough, but when you become political, they become even tougher. Through his economy, wit, and wry humour makes you feel like you are right in the thick of the action.’

Chris Gaynor, Surrey

‘A unique account of a fascinating contemporary period.’

Jason Smart, Brighton

‘An insightful and funny tale of the bizarre nether regions of direct action.’

Tammi Dallaston, Forest of Dean
